Description

Whiteboard animation is a style of video designed to look like the content is being hand-drawn on a school whiteboard. This combination of visual and verbal information delivery can help to connect the dots with some of the more challenging concepts, whilst being more attractive to students when compared to other visual aids (i.e. powerpoint). This was introduced into ASC210 and ASC209 for the delivery of mare endocrinology and stallion semen shipment calculations with more animations planned for delivery in 2023. Online analytics demonstrated that students frequently accessed the whiteboard animations, and student feedback indicated that the students thought these animations were informative and engaging. Additional analytics determined that whilst students accessed the animations frequently, they did not always watch it through to the finish. One of the animations was greater than 3 minutes long and the average length of time the video was watched was 2 minutes 53 seconds. As a result, future development of animations will be aimed at creating content that is delivered in less than 2 minutes and 30 seconds, to improve engagement with the content and increase the likely hood of the students watching the entire animation to get the full benefit out of it.
