Description
I made a significant academic contribution to agricultural education standards through my comprehensive review and analysis of the draft Australian Learning and Teaching Academic Standards Statement for Agriculture (AgLTAS 2.0). My work focused specifically on examining how agricultural extension, communication, and social sciences were conceptualized and integrated within the five key Threshold Learning Outcomes for undergraduate agriculture degrees: Knowledge, Understanding, Inquiry and Problem Solving, Communication, and Professional and Personal Responsibility. Through this in-depth analysis, conducted in collaboration with Dr Wes Ward, I identified critical gaps in the representation of social sciences, agricultural extension communities, and First Nations perspectives within the draft standards. Our collaborative effort resulted in a substantial 2000-word submission that provided evidence-based recommendations for strengthening these essential components in agricultural education. This contribution directly influenced the development of national academic standards in agriculture, ensuring that the social dimensions of agricultural practice, community engagement through extension work, and First Nations knowledges receive appropriate recognition and integration in undergraduate agricultural curricula across Australia.Period | 2025 → … |
