Module outlining the requirements of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

When using animals for scientific purposes (which includes teaching and research) you have a legal and ethical obligation to strive for positive animal welfare.

This module outlines the expectations that must be satisfied when using animals for scientific purposes under the principles of the:

Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, 2018 (the Code of Conduct);
Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes 8th edition 2013 (the Code);
Best practice methodology in the use of animals for scientific purposes.

This module will also explain the roles and responsibilities of the University and the Animal Care and Ethics Committee (ACEC) in meeting ethical and animal welfare expectations. This module is divided into four units:
