Consultation project: Law for the Human Services: Presentation to social work/human services discipline

Description

A consultation project was undertaken with industry stakeholders with respect to human services and the law subjects and what key learning was critical for students to prepare them for practice. While pedagogic challenges exist in delivering legal content to human services and social work students, it is important that a human services practice focus be firstly adopted. Consultation findings highlight the significance of making real life connections, such as scenarios and simulations which link to social work and human services duties and functions (eg align with micro, meso, macro of practice). Students need the opportunity to develop their confidence and identity as human services practitioners and social workers where knowledge about the legal context is more of an adjunct to their practice.
