Description

Pushing the boundaries with Cadmus: an overview, with Jessica Russ-Smith.
Abstract:
Mid-pandemic may be an outrageous time to take on new challenges, especially in first-year subjects with over 500 students. However, as convenors for two foundational Indigenous Australian Studies subjects, we chose to push the boundaries on the way assessment is delivered and managed, using the online assessment-for-learning platform, Cadmus — resulting in high student experience and streamlined assessment administration.
In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the Cadmus platform and the benefits and challenges we experienced implementing it within our subjects. Sharing our own perspectives, as well as feedback from students and markers, the presentation will capture adopting new learning tools, onboarding students and sessional staff, managing marking and moderation workflows, and increasing scaffolding and support for students.
Our aim is to introduce academics to alternative ways to conduct online assessment, encouraging them to challenge conventional ways of working for the benefit of students, teaching teams, and themselves.
