In the context of the increasing frequency and intensity of disasters, community service organisations play a critical role in responding to the negative impacts of disasters on people and communities. Why focus on resilience? Because the more prepared an organisation is, the better equipped that organisation will be to manage service disruption in the immediate and post-disaster period and therefore to address the adverse impacts of disasters on service users. This course provides an easy-to-use guide for developing disaster resilience plans relevant to community service organisations. It adopts the ULTRIS model for disaster-resilient organisations, developed out of a community-based project with community service organisations and emergency services (Boetto & Bell, 2022), consisting of six fundamental areas: Understanding your role Local community context Team preparedness Relationship building Implementing policies and procedures Service user preparedness
