Engineering first-year subject restructure

Description

The civil engineering course at Charles Sturt has been running for 6 years. The first year curriculum was designed with transition pedagogy in mind but some challenges have remained an issue. In 2021, one subject was restructured to address some issues but with limited success.
First session of the first year of course consists of:
ENG160 Engineering Challenge 0 – a two-week subject which purpose is an intensive orientation to the course. 20 hours per week.
ENG161 Engineering Challenge 1 – project- and problem-based learning subject completed in teams. 20 hours/week
ENG171 Topic Tree 1 – online module learning in which students must complete 60 3-hour modules of theoretical learning over 1 session. 20 hours/week
