This submission to the Federal Parliamentary Committee – The Joint Standing Committee on Migration examined how to encourage migrants to settle and remain in regional areas. In summary, the written submission detailed key principles for successful migrant settlement in regional areas. These included:
•Minimising the uncertainty with regard to the regional migration scheme
•Essential service providers including staff in learning institutions and employers being trained on how to work with the new migrants
•Building the capacity of local community organisations in regional areas
•Taking holistic approach to settlement services.
