Description

Moving beyond information and knowledge to wisdom in information

Purpose: The keynote speech will focus on wisdom, especially the practical and applied aspects of it as are useful in the works of information professionals within today’s highly dynamic and shifting information landscapes.
Research Design: Current literature on wisdom was critically scrutinized to discover the key elements of wisdom, and the relationships that exist between these elements. The understanding and application of these elements was also examined as there is a need to understand their use from the perspective of information professionals, and it is noted that the abstract and intangible factors of wisdom, along with personal factors, make it difficult to apply wisdom in routine works.
Key Findings: A conceptual model was drawn to comprehend and emphasize the importance of incorporating wisdom in the daily and routine works of information professionals, and to highlight the importance of the community and stakeholders in any project.
Conclusions/Implications: These elements and features discovered for wisdom make it an important and significant topic for initiating and establishing an ongoing discourse within the fields of knowledge management and information studies.
