Curator's Conversation

Curator's Conversation from the exhibition Khayamiya: Khedival to Contemporary – The Egyptian Tentmakers from 1890 to 2010. ( 1pm-2pm on Tuesday 27 August, 2013) Description: This one-hour public presentation engaged visitors with the original research I generated through the curation of the exhibition Khayamiya: Khedival to Contemporary for Charles Sturt University's HR Gallop Gallery in Wagga Wagga. I provided an aesthetic and conceptual overview of khayamiya, including illustrated references to specimens not displayed in the exhibition, and described my research process into an otherwise unexplored field of Islamic Art – a genre of art history that is rarely pursued in Australia. The presentation provided preliminary feedback for four conference papers and the peer-reviewed article subsequently published in Hali's Spring 2014 edition.
