    Description

As part of Charles Sturt University (CSU) Learning and Teaching (L&T) Symposium, on Friday 3rd September 2021, I attended a workshop about How to teach students how to research.
The workshop detailed the guidelines to critically read scholarly articles. The workshop emphasized on training the students to identify different aspects of the article including drawbacks of existing systems, problem statement and contribution of the research article, new knowledge added by researchers and impact of innovation in other areas.
The workshop is directly applicable to the subject of Internet of Things. IoT subject has a research report as a major assessment. In the research report, students complete the literature review of ten research articles.
I applied the insight learnt from the workshop and guided the students how to read article critically. This semester, overall, the class score in research report has improved. Moreover, students were confident in doing the literature review and consequently only one academic misconduct in the research report has been reported in this semester.
