Activity: Engagement & professional developmentContent creation/deliveryAcademic

Description

These sessions explored the issues of gender equity in general and at CSU. The initial webinar introduced the Athena SWAN project, outlining its purpose, the issues of gender equity and the experiences of women in everyday employment both in Australia and internationally. Participants contributed to the information through questions, personal stories and shared knowledges.
The second webinar explored concepts of Intersectionality, defining the concept and the issues, and building shared understandings with the participants, as well as questions for follow up exploration.
Further webinars will follow in 2018, continuing the focus on issues of diversity and equity.
Research Contribution:
These webinars provided information about the structural and systemic inequalities in the higher education sector and provided opportunity for shared exploration of the issues facing women in higher education.

Research Significance:
These 2 sessions were the initial sessions in an ongoing program of community webinars running on a regular basis across all campuses of CSU.
These sessions have significance in the CSU community as they open an arena for conversation and contribution. Over a period of time, issues or questions will arise that will form the basis of future research studies, using a feminist, constructivist methodology.
