Professional Experience Hub Project (Albury) - Engagement Case Study

Activity: Engagement case studiesIndustry

Description

This engagement case study emerged from three successful competitive grants funded by NSW Department of Education & CSU FOAE that resulted in a longitudinal university, school, and department partnership research project (2017 to date). The project investigated an enhanced model of pre-service teacher professional experience between CSU and James Fallon High School and resulted in multiple subsequent publications, collaborations, presentations, strategies and a significant evidenced-based industry engagement portfolio. The funded projects were "Teaching for the Future Professional Partnership: Building Expertise and Innovative Practice A Strengths-based Embedded Case Study" (NSWDET, 2017 -2019, $12,800), JFHSPEX: A strengths-based embedded case study (2017-2018, FOAE,$3,600) and "James Fallon High School’s Professional Experience Hub Project" (NSWDET, 2019 - 2022, $16.000).

The investment of time, funding and research engagement effort delivered multiple, ongoing positive engagement outcomes for all stakeholders - connecting university sector academics, researchers and students, school-based staff, supervisors, teachers, and leaders as well as funding (Department of Education) partners and industry education sector representatives. The partnership model of the research ensured that strong engagement from all stakeholders was integral to the research design and outcomes. For instance, the chief investigator worked with two Research Assistants on the literature review and data collection and analysis. One RA was chosen from the school staff and another from the university - the enabling partnership resulted in creating interactions, connections with each organisation whilst building research interest, presentations, publications and capacity.

Multiple research engagement activities were completed with the school, department and university and successful presentations to industry and academic audiences were successful and productive. For example, the research findings, implications and recommendations were presented at the New South Wales Council of Deans of Education Conference and NSW Dept Education Professional Experience Hub School Conference in 2019.
