The Importance of Literacy for Teachers

Activity: Scholarly activities in Learning and Teaching reflectionAdvanced scholarship reflection

Description

This is a podcast presentation that took the form of a conversation between Pathways Manager Julie Sack and Dr Suzie Gibson that sought to articulate the many way in which literacy is important for Teacher Education students and for people in general. This activity enabled me to reflect upon my teaching of 'Language, Culture and Society' (LIT114) that is a service taught teacher education subject that focuses upon improving student's literacy. What the podcast brought to the fore was the importance of literacy as an essential skill in education as well as beyond the sphere of the university. This activity also fostered my own awareness of how literacy is essential to both my work and life as an educator and communicator and it thus enriched my teaching of LIT114 as well as LIT212 as language is essential in all subjects as well as in all forms of communication.
