Islamophobia and the Christchurch terror attack

Press/Media: Press / Media

Description

Dr Derya Iner was writing up the second major report into Islamophobia in Australia when the Christchurch terror attacks occurred on Friday, March 15.

In fact, she was specifically working on a section about how online and actual Islamophobia feed each other, as she explains to Meredith Lake.

Dr Iner examines the root causes of Islamophobia, and explains how the current political and social climate is affecting the lives of Australian Muslims.

And, she shares why she was horrified — but not shocked — by the news of the attack.

Dr Derya Iner is Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Contemporary Studies, at the Centre of Islamic Studies and Civilisation at Charles Sturt University
