    Description

Pre-recorded interview with Charles Sturt University Project Leader Dr Cyril Stephen. Hough says researchers are developing a calf alert device to address calf loss in extensive beef reproduction systems. She says an updated prototype has been trialled in pregnant cows of up to seven months at trial sites in Rockhampton and Longreach earlier this year. In the interview, Stephen says the device could be a gamechanger for the industry. He explains the device can be inserted into pregnant cows and can be retained for a long time. He says the device emits a signal, which detected by land-based receivers and then transmitted to
a Data Pulse Link(*) Centre. He explains the device is expelled at the time of calving or an abortion. Stephen says the device can be used to control calf loss.
