The ‘Dance the COVID stress away’ event was organised by the Wagga African women through the Wagga African Association (WAFRICA). The audience watched women showcasing their African traditional dances from some of Africa’s 54 countries. The event was a culmination of weekly health, well-being, and social gathering by women dancers that had been running every Sunday afternoon for four weeks. Women wanted to dance the COVID stress away! This was good for their Mental Health. Among the event activities were two speakers who discussed women’s mental health issues
This Community event was part of a bigger project, The Ujirani/Neighbourhood Initiative and the Staying Safe and Connected project that is aimed at engaging the African community in the Riverina region in activities that build social and cultural connections. The event was supported by Multicultural NSW; City of Wagga Wagga; and STARTTS.
