Title Women's survival skills instructor warns hikers learning the basics can be the difference between life and death Degree of recognition National Media name/outlet ABC News Media type Web Country/Territory Australia Date 22/07/23 Description Geospatial scientist Krystal Dacey is also trying to help lost hikers, but unlike Ms Jackson's preventative work, Ms Dacey is called on once someone has actually gone missing.
She has developed a model, layering data on demographics and human behaviour on top of the fixed terrain, that can predict probability areas up to 85 per cent.
"So, if we know the type of person who's been lost and we know where they were lost, where they were last seen, any other additional information, well, we can kind of go, 'what's the terrain look like around here? Where are they likely to go?'", Ms Dacey said.Producer/Author Emmy Groves and Charlotte Gore URL https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-22/act-teaching-women-outdoor-emergency-survival-skills-hiking/102634212 Persons Krystal Dacey Title ABC News television interview - Modelling lost people Degree of recognition National Media name/outlet ABC News Media type Television Country/Territory Australia Date 22/07/23 Producer/Author Emmy Groves URL https://iview.abc.net.au/show/abc-news-at-noon-weekend Persons Krystal Dacey
