DescriptionGeospatial scientist Krystal Dacey is also trying to help lost hikers, but unlike Ms Jackson's preventative work, Ms Dacey is called on once someone has actually gone missing.

She has developed a model, layering data on demographics and human behaviour on top of the fixed terrain, that can predict probability areas up to 85 per cent.

"So, if we know the type of person who's been lost and we know where they were lost, where they were last seen, any other additional information, well, we can kind of go, 'what's the terrain look like around here? Where are they likely to go?'", Ms Dacey said.
