Personal profile

Tony has business degrees as well as a Masters in Education, and has a lengthy connection to CSU having started his studies here in 1979. He has considerable professional experience within management, education and VET areas in both a teaching and administrative capacity. His managerial and industry experience within both the public and tertiary sectors totals over 8 years at senior levels, while he has over 15 years' experience within both the VET and university areas.

Tony served as Coordinator of Queensland's Department of Employment, Vocational Education, Training and Industrial Relations' (DEVETIR's) Recruitment/Traineeship branch as well as an honorarium as Chair of the Queensland Business and Office Studies Accreditation Branch in the early 1990's, before returning to Charles Sturt University (CSU) as a lecturer in management in September 1991. His specialty areas are human resource development, organisational behaviours and training. He left CSU in 1997 to take up a Senior Instructors position in the United Arab Emirates in the Higher Colleges of Technology. He taught a wide range of subjects in the Diploma, Higher Diploma and Bachelors degree programs for 6 years, prior to returning to Australia, in late 2003. On his return, Tony was employed as Manager of CSU Training, an RTO established as an adjunct of the university in a half-time capacity as well as working half-time as a lecturer in VET within the School of Education. From July 2005, Tony was appointed International Program Coordinator with the International School of Business (currently International School of Business and Partnerships) at CSU. Because of his expertise and contributions, he was invited by the Vice Chancellor at CSU to also Chair the Management Committee of CSU Training from July 2005. He continues to undertake this role.

Tony has also been Chair of the Queensland Business and Office Studies Accreditation Branch, Board member of the Riverina Community College, Chair of the Riverina Group Training Company, and Chair of the Al Ain Women's College Professional Development Committee. He has considerable research expertise and involvement in VET, delivery and assessment pathways, educational and employment outcomes and the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). He has demonstrated expertise and experience in post-compulsory education and training research at both state and national levels.

Teaching

In his 10+ years at CSU, Tony has been Subject Coordinator for MGT210 - Organisational Behaviour and MGT100 - Organisations and Management at undergraduate level, as well as HRM310 - Developing Human Resources, and HRM527 - HRD: Theoretical Foundations and Practices at postgraduate level. Tony has also covered other subjects within the Bachelor of Business program such as Marketing Management, Australian Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management. He was also Subject Coordinator for two of the four subjects offered, these being HRM525 - Human Resource Development and HRM526 - Managing the Training Function.

Research Interests

Research Focus

Tony's research interests are management and international business in general and specifically human resource management, training and development, VET and organisational behaviour. He is currently enrolled in a DBA at CSU looking at expatriate management issues.

Research Project Supervision

Co-supervisor of a Diploma of Education student, Supaganaya Chaichanapanich, whose research thesis is entitled "The Impact of a Competency based Training Program to Improve Customer Quality Service Skills of Employees in a Thai Workplace".

Professional Information

Currently Tony is Chair of CSU Training and a Board Member of the CSU Learning Enterprise.

Tony was recently involved in the DEST commissioned 'Review of the Joint Group Training Program' in association with Quantum Consulting Australia.
