Dr Ali Ahmed is a biostatistician and environmental epidemiologist with nearly 20 years of professional experience. Currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Epidemiology at the Rural Health Research Institute, he has a robust analytical background in public health, climate change, and environmental health research. He is skilled in managing health and demographic surveillance systems, national health surveys, and environmental and climatic databases. His current research focuses on assessing the burden of diseases in rural and remote Australia using National Health Data, with an emphasis on child and youth populations in these regions. Additionally, he examines the predictive accuracy of climatic models and develops models to understand the health impacts of environmental factors such as extreme weather events and climate variability, particularly on vulnerable populations.
His expertise covers longitudinal relational and large-scale data management, evaluation study and project data, data integration and analysis, data visualisation and dissemination. His current research focused on to analyse the burden, trends, and disparities in child and youth mental health illness in rural and remote Australia. In addition, his research interest areas are environmental impact and climate change, non-communicable diseases, and mortality. One of his future priority research areas is the impact of climate change on mental health.
Dr Ahmed has a Master of Science (M.Sc.; thesis) and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.; Honours) in Statistics from the Department of Statistics at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He accomplished the degree of Master of Public Health (MPH) from BRAC James P. Grand School of Public Health, BRAC University, Bangladesh. His doctoral research has been published in leading peer reviewed journal.
