Astrid Vachette is a lecturer in Emergency Management at the Australian Graduate School in Policing and Security, Charles Sturt University. She holds a Bachelor and Masters from France in international crises management, and completed her doctoral thesis at the Centre for Disaster Studies, James Cook University, on integrated disaster resilience in Vanuatu. She also optimised a COVID-gap-year and completed a graduate diploma in Psychology at the University of New England, to better integrate mental health considerations into her teaching and research. Astrid was a volunteer with New South Wales Rural Fire Services and trained crisis supporter.

Astrid is an interdisciplinary social scientist working at the intersection of social and ecological systems in an era defined by compounding and borderless disasters. Her current research projects focus on sustainable emergency management, climate migration in the Pacific islands, community perceptions of bushfire and flood risks in Australia, and the complex interface science-practice-policy.
