Research Interests

Dr Brian Sengstock's primary area of research interest is in the area of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men and their access to HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (HIV PrEP) and the range of factors which influence access to this medication. Brian's research in this area to date has led to him being awarded an NHMRC Ideas Grant to undertake research in this area to develop an innovative, m-health based approach to peer navigation to increase the uptake of HIV PrEP.

Brian also has research interests in the how gender and sexually diverse health care students experience the health care curriculum in the higher educatoin setting, and the Work Integrated Learning setting. Brian completed his PhD in the area of nursing students experiences of clinical placement and continues to undertake Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research in this area in relation to other health care professions, with a focus on the experience of gender and sexually diverse students in this context.
