Personal profile

Professor Blanchard completed a BAppSc degree at Charles Sturt University (CSU) before undertaking a PhD in molecular biology based at CSIRO Plant Industry, Canberra.

Prof. Blanchard worked as a molecular biologist at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Lausanne, Switzerland and as a protein biochemist at the CSIRO Grain Quality Research Laboratory prior to joining CSU in 1998. Professor Blanchard is an academic within the School of Biomedical Sciences and a Pathway Leader within the Graham Centre. He is also the Director of the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Functional Grains (Functional Grains Centre).

Research Interests

Professor Blanchard's research interests related to grain quality and investigating ways to improve the value of grain. He currently leads research projects in the following areas:

-       Pulse Market intelligence (GRDC)

-       New GI screening methods for rice (RIRDC)

-       Improving pulse profitability in Pakistan (ACIAR)

-       New opportunities for Sorghum (GRDC)

-       ARC ITTC for Functional Grains (ARC)

Teaching

Professor Blanchard is actively involved in the supervision of postgraduate students in the area of grain quality.
