Cathy Maginnis is a Lecturer at Charles Sturt University and has been with Charles Sturt University since 1998. She is a Lecturer in Rural Health (Clinical Educator) with the Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health, located at Dubbo. She also works part time as a Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery at Charles Sturt University-Dubbo Campus. Cathy has a Master in Health Science (Nursing), a Bachelor of Applied Science (Nursing), a Graduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Health Nursing and is a practicing midwife. She has a passion for nursing and midwifery, providing education for rural students and researching rural issues especially surrounding health professionals and rural placements. She has been fortunate to take Bachelor of Nursing students on international workplace learning placements to remote areas in Northern Thailand as well as to Cusco in Peru and has an interest in researching this aspect of learning and culture shock as well as the role of a facilitator on international placements.
