My research focuses on strategic communication and public relations through a critical lens, emphasising discourse and positioning analysis. Over the past decade, my work has significantly contributed to the field of environmental sustainability, particularly in relation to policy and politics. This research trajectory has led to numerous publications and presentations on topics such as health communication, climate change, sustainability, public relations ethics, and science diplomacy, supported by competitive grants totaling over AU$80,000.
Significant projects include leading the New Colombo Plan Mobility Scholarship Grant in 2019 titled 'Enhancing Australian public relations students' professional practice in Indonesia'. In 2020, as Lead Chief Investigator for the NSW Lake Macquarie Council Environmental Research Grant, I delivered a comprehensive report on sustainable neighbourhood groups, influencing local environmental strategies.
In 2022, I contributed to a public relations campaign for the Climate Change and Planning Advocacy Group in Victoria, Australia, aiming to integrate climate change considerations into planning legislation. This campaign achieved its objectives, emphasizing the importance of strategic communication in legislative advocacy.
In 2024, my research direction shifted towards the intersection of public relations/strategic communication and information studies at the School of Information and Communication Studies at CSU. This new focus explores the relationship between strategic communication practices and digital audience engagement, driven by the ongoing relevance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030. My goal is to advance understanding in the digital communications landscape, offering insights into effective audience engagement strategies.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
