Personal profile

Jason is a practical soil science researcher with an interest in real world soil issues, communicating an understanding of agronomically relevant soil mechanisms to end users, and raising the awareness of soils within the broader community. He studied acid soil amelioration methods in his Honours year (1995) before completing his PhD on acidification mechanisms in pasture systems in 2002. His PhD was studied part-time as he also held an academic position at Charles Sturt University teaching soil science and soil management subjects. He has worked on research projects covering nutrient cycling, soil C sequestration, efficiencies of organic and inorganic fertiliser, managing salinity and soil acidity. He has extensive postgraduate supervision experience and has conducted numerous soils-based extension and training activities for advisors and land managers. Jason also has more than 15 years’ experience researching soil and farming systems issues in the Mekong River Delta of Vietnam.

Jason has strong collaboration in research and extension with industry through FarmLink, Central West Farming Systems, Holbrook Landcare Network, and the Riverine Plains farming system groups, NSW DPI and leading agricultural companies like Nutrien, Delta Ag and AgnVet Services. He is driven to create smooth transitions between research and on farm practice change and the development of people along the spectrum of undergraduate student to agricultural professional.
