Personal profile

I have been a member of the School of Nursing, Paramedicine and Healthcare Sciences (SNPHS) since January 2023, initially as Acting Course Director of Paramedicine, and now as Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences and Head of Discipline, First Nations Health. I teach into the Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health), with a focus on community development, mental health law, and research in mental health, and into the Master of Health Management, with a focus on health law and advocacy. 

Before joining SNPHS, I was Senior Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Health and Course Director in CSU's School of Allied Health, Exercise and Sports Science (previously School of Community Health), where I taught primarily health social sciences and community health. 

My life and work is founded on principles of social justice, human rights, respect, honesty, and empowerment, exemplifying my commitment to knowing how to live well in a world worth living in - yindyamarra winhanganha. 

Professional Information

I am a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW, Roll Number LAW094331, as well as a member of a number of professional associations. These include Society for Community Research and Action, Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law, People with Disability Australia, Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth and Association for Tertiary Education Management. I am an associate member of the Australasian College of Paramedicine and Australiasian College of Health Service Management. 

Research Interests

My research interests include primary mental health care, provision of health care services, paramedicine, health and disability law, sociology of health, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing. I am currently involved in research projects encompassing these interests, particularly the professionalisation of paramedicine, neurodiversity in paramedicine, and LGBTQI+ palliative care. 

I have worked in research collaborations with Greater Southern Area Health Service, Royal Far West, Royal Rehabilitation Hospital, and Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health.

I am reviewer for a number of journals, including PLOS-One, Ageing and Mental Health, Midwifery, International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, Australian Journal of Rehabilitation, Frontiers of Public Health, and Frontiers of Womens' Health. 

I am an experienced postgraduate supervisor specialising in qualitative and mixed methods research. I have supervised 5 honours students, 8 Masters students and 8 PhD students through to completion. I am currently supervising 5 PhD students, 2 Masters students and 1 Honours student, four as principal supervisor. All but two students are engaged in health and wellbeing projects, and four are nearing completion.
