As a Registered Nurse Jennifer values the clinical environment and as a Nursing Academic, considers the scholarship of teaching and learning to be a priority. Her experience in nursing is extensive and varied with expertise in many areas of healthcare; in both acute and non-acute areas as well as rehabilitation and community health, with experience in public and private health sectors. Jennifer is passionate about education and assisting students to succeed in their journey in becoming a Registered Nurse.
Jennifer’s experience in tertiary education has widened in the time of being an academic with the School and prefers to focus on teaching into first-year undergraduate cohort. Jennifer’s current position and past positions provide Jennifer with an ability to assist and understand the needs of beginning students. Jennifer has also been Subject Coordinator for 2nd and 3rd year nursing subjects.
Jennifer has furthermore contributed to Nursing education by co-authoring a chapter concerning Ear, Eye and Dental health for the 2018 edition of a text concerning chronic nursing care; Deravin-Malone, L., & Anderson, J. (Eds) (2016). Chronic Care Nursing: A framework for practice. Melbourne: Cambridge University Press. The next edition of this text has met a demand for increasing a nurses’ appreciation of the complexities of caring for patients with co-morbidities.
Jennifer is an active member of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) and the Australian College of Nursing (ACN). These positions are external to her academic role with the School and focuses the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and on the ACN region’s members and is enthusiastic in creating networking opportunities and providing professional support for the members in the Central West region.
