Personal profile

Personal profile

Dr Karthika Pillai`s PhD research was on wave overtopping at berm breakwaters wherein she studied the overtopping phenomena at hardly/partly reshaping structures and the response to climate change effects. Her areas of strong expertise are physical model testing, development of prediction models and in the analysis of climate change impacts. In addition, she utilised the physical modelling opportunity during her research to measure the wave reflection and temporal variation of overtopping which are significant for the safe and economic design of these structures.

She completed her Master`s in Construction Technology and Management wherein the research focussed on an economic design alternative for the conventional breakwater. Karthika worked in the infrastructure construction industry for three years prior to her PhD and she was involved in the preparation of tender documents, logistic plans and methods for the construction of major road and metro rail projects. Furthermore, she was engaged in various teaching activities related to Civil Engineering prior to and during her PhD. Karthika is passionate to give back to society by collaborating on projects under the environmental water and sustainable development themes.
