Kay Nankervis is a practising actor and playwright teaching and researching in the School of Communication and Creative Industries at Charles Sturt University. Kay worked in a variety of media positions before entering academica eighteen years ago. She had acting roles in film, on stage and in television drama. She has been a broadcast journalist with ABC, SBS and commercial networks in Australia and Great Britain. She worked as a senior producer on flagship ABC programs. Since joining CSU she has written and seen to production a number of stageplays, completed an MA in creative writing/scriptwriting (her major work was a full length screenplay currently seeking development), had a central role in feature film, Orange Love Story, and performed in several stage productions in the NSW central west. Kay has published journal articles and presented at conferences on theatre-making, critical whiteness, representations of First Nations Australians, broadcast journalism, playwriting and on communication pedagogy (including issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education). Kay is nearing completion of a PhD exploring the role of the non-Aboriginal playwright seeking to include First Nations perspectives in her writing.
