Dr Kay Nankervis is a practising actor, playwright, screenwriter and media trainer. Kay has a PhD in theatre practice from Flinders University: 'Cultural gold/colonial desire: First Nations stories and the non-Aboriginal theatre maker', a UTS Master of Arts in creative writing, majoring in screenwriting, and a BA (Communications - Journalism) from Mitchell College of Advanced Education (now Charles Sturt University). Kay worked in a variety of media positions over twenty years before entering academia more than two decades ago. She has had acting roles in film, on stage and in television drama. She has been a broadcast journalist with ABC, SBS and commercial networks in Australia and Great Britain. She worked as a senior producer on flagship ABC programs. Since joining CSU she has written and seen to production a number of stage-plays, had a central role in feature film, 'Orange Love Story', and has performed in several stage productions in the NSW central west. Kay has published journal articles and presented at conferences on theatre-making, critical whiteness, representations of First Nations Australians, broadcast journalism, play-writing and on communication pedagogy (including issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education). Kay is now a research associate/adjunct lecturer in Charles Sturt University's School of Social Work and Arts after twenty years as a full-time academic/lecturer-researcher in the then School of Communication and Creative Industries.
