Research Interests

Lysa’s research has focused on children as research participants, resulting in the design of innovative methods that facilitate young children’s participation in research and highlight how children’s experiences can inform inclusive pedagogies in education. Lysa's research positions children as capable and knowledgeable and promotes children's right to express their views, particularly through arts-based methodologies

Lysa's doctoral study, completed with CSU in 2016, explored transition to school experiences from the perspectives of Aboriginal children and their families and educators living in urban communities in NSW. Working alongside Aboriginal families and researchers, she learned from children, families and educators about ways of knowing, being and doing as children started school across the Tharawal (Dharawal) community. The research was part of an ARC funded project titled: Gudaga goes to school – An ecological study of school transition and the early years of school for Aboriginal children in an urban community.
