Professional Information

AProf. Marina da Rosa Kaizer is an Associate Professor in Advanced Restorative Dentistry, at the Centre for Rural Dentistry and Oral Health, Orange Campus. She is also Associate Editor in Dentistry / Dental Materials for the journal Heliyon https://www.cell.com/heliyon/home; and, Board Member for the Brazilian Group of Dental Materials https://www.gbmd.com.br.

AProf. Kaizer obtained her BDS degree in 2004, followed by an extensive clinical practice experience in general and restorative dentistry. Alongside, she completed a Clinical Postgraduation in Operative Dentistry in 2009, a Master’s degree in Dental Sciences with emphasis in Prosthodontics in 2010, and was awarded her PhD degree in Dental Materials in 2015. All the above qualification obtained in fully accredited universities in Brazil. As part of her PhD program, she spent over a year as a visiting research scholar in the Biomaterials Department at New York University College of Dentistry, USA.

Following her PhD degree, she completed a Postdoctoral Research Training in Materials Science and Engineering in Brazil (2016); and was then appointed Professional Research Scientist back in the Biomaterials Department at New York University College of Dentistry, USA.

AProf. Kaizer returned to Brazil in 2019 as an Associate Professor in Restorative Dentistry at Universidade Positivo, where she stayed until joining CSU in 2023.

Teaching

AProf. Kaizer’ experience as an educator for dental students began back in 2004, a month after her BDS graduation. Her main teaching responsibilities, since then, including Bachelor and Postgraduate levels of Dentistry education, have been: the theoretical and preclinical content of dental materials and restorative dentistry subjects for bachelor students; as well as clinical supervision of bachelor students in integrate clinics; she also taught in preclinical and patient clinics for candidates pursing clinical graduate program in the subjects of restorative and prosthetic dentistry; nonetheless, she taught and supervised candidates pursuing their Honours, Master’s and PhD trainings with emphasis in clinical dentistry and dental materials.

AProf. Kaizer completed the “Excellence in Clinical Teaching” certificate program, at New York University College of Dentistry, USA. This rigorous program provides knowledge and skills to enhance clinical teaching performance, comprising: Adult Learning Theory, Generational Issues, Setting Expectations, and Giving Effective Feedback.

Research Interests

AProf. Kaizer’s research focus is the wear, fatigue, fracture mechanics and optical and bonding properties of various restorative dental materials for direct and indirect applications, with a strong interest in CAD/CAM and other technologies with applications within Digital Dentistry.

Over the academic career of AProf. Kaizer, she published more than 50 peer-reviewed international journal articles in high impact journals, such as Dental Materials, Journal of Dental Research, Ceramics International. She also published her research work in over 100 conference proceedings, sharing scientific evidence with the broad dental community. Furthermore, AProf. Kaizer trained and mentored numerous young researchers, including honours bachelor students, master’s and PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

AProf. Kaizer’s contributions to the dental research community have constantly been recognized by the ever-growing number of citations in the work of other researchers. She is also the recipient of the two most prestigious international awards given by the Academy of Dental Materials for early career researchers, the 2015 Paffenbarger and the 2018 Marshalls awards.
