Mary Anne's research interests focus broadly on scholarly communication including open access, institutional repositories, e-research, research data management, citizen science and increasingly on the practices of information sharing and collaboration.

Other recent investigations include working with CSU colleagues to investigate how information can play a part in the social inclusion of refugees.More broadly Mary Anne is interested in research methodology and methods, and investigates using a variety of approaches, including interpretivist/constuctivist and post positivist, and a variety of methods from field research to survey.
