Nicola has emerged from an agricultural biosciences training pathway which culminated in a technical PhD focused on plant pathogens, and expanded her skill set over the past decade to position herself in much-needed interdisciplinary space.

Her expertise could be best described as systems-level knowledge brokerage, identifying and engaging research and other capacity needed to deliver innovative outcomes. In her projects she has developed the key local, national and international relationships, needed to deliver on highly multidisciplinary research challenges. These relationships span fields of knowledge in biology, sociology, communications, information technology, community engagement, accessibility, gender, education, language, practice change and systems analysis. She has established professional networks encompassing government, funder and NGO stakeholders in agricultural and animal health development in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

She is currently leading the development of translational One Health research responses to complex problems in regional plant and animal health.
