Nushrat Azam is pursuing her Higher Research Degree (PhD) in Literature & Creative Writing at the Faculty of Arts & Education, Charles Sturt University. Nushrat is also a lecturer (currently on study leave) in the School of Communications, Language & Literature at Fiji National University in Suva, Fiji Islands.

Nushrat is an active researcher with a keen interest in feminism and voices focusing on gender performativity. She has completed her Master of Arts in Literature from The University of the South Pacific in Fiji, and her Master’s Thesis focused on the voices and silences of female characters in Postcolonial Literature.

Her book titled The Girl with a Mirror – A Collection of Short Stories was published in June 2021. The book is a semi-autobiographical fiction containing six short stories about every normal girl who sees herself and the world through her mirror, exploring the voices of women, identity and empowerment. Nushrat has published research articles focusing on women's voices, and her journal article “Madwoman in the Postcolonial Era” is being used as a required reading/part of Literature courses at various universities in Europe. Her short stories Unspread Wings: From Crossing Streets to Crossing Ocean, Dusting Stones Buried Deep (A Tale of First Love, Betrayal & Psychological Abuse), A Step Away from the Dance Floor, The Ship that Sailed (Daddy’s Diaries) were published in a Canadian Feminist Magazine.
