Phillip Ebbs is an Australian paramedic and researcher based in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. He brings extensive Australian and international experience to his teaching programs, conference presentations and research publications.

Phil is passionate about helping people harness their capabilities and talents to work in complex teams, and to make effective, safe and insightful leadership decisions in complex environments.

With an impressive clinical and leadership career, Phillip was the first paramedic advisor to the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) and was later appointed as Deputy Chair of the Clinical Council for the CEC. He was a ministerial appointment to the NSW Paramedicine Council, and an office holder of the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals (NSW) and Paramedics Australasia (now merged as the Australasian College of Paramedicine). Appointed as a paramedic Superintendent in 2009, he also spent more than 18 months acting at the Assistant Commissioner level where he successfully implemented major organisational reforms across one of the world’s largest ambulance services, NSW Ambulance. Phillip has also held leadership roles in major incident and disaster response settings in NSW.

Phil commenced as a Senior Lecturer with Charles Sturt University in 2015. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters, and he frequently presents at paramedic and interprofessional conferences. He is an Editorial Board Member for the journal International Paramedic Practice, is the most read author for the Journal of Paramedic Practice (UK), and he is also a reviewer for multiple paramedicine and interprofessional journals.

Phillip Ebbs’ research chiefly focuses on the ways in which paramedics and other professionals can perform effectively in complex settings. Accordingly, his engaging teaching style empowers people to better understand the health, social, and interpersonal issues which impact decision making and performance in complex, high-stress environments.
