Personal profile

Personal profile

Dr Saeed Shaeri pursued a professional engineering career for about 12 years, working for various clients, and consultancy and contractor companies on a number of onshore, nearshore and offshore projects, before commencing his PhD studies. For his PhD research, Saeed worked on a hydrodynamics and sediment transport project on the Gold Coast, while casually teaching various civil engineering courses. After completing his PhD research, he continued teaching casually, while also working for the Gold Coast City Council in the Natural Hazard Management team as a senior environmental modeller, conducting computerised simulations of hydrodynamics and water quality on waterways and coastal areas surrounding the Gold Coast, along with required data collection activities. Saeed joined Charles Sturt University in 2019, and since then taught various civil engineering courses and mentored many student engineers. In 2022, he was seconded as an Academic Lead (Learning and Teaching Quality) in the Charles Sturt’s Division of Learning and Teaching, and worked for a year on projects related to academic integrity, postgraduate course review, flexible learning, and artificial intelligence.

A part of Saeed’s areas of research expertise is hydrodynamic simulations of riverine and coastal environments, field measurements and data collection, and climate change impact investigation on coastal environments and waterways. However, Saeed is now primarily interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning, particularly engineering education research, conducted in either a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method approach, on topics such as work-integrated learning, project/problem-based learning, peer and self-assessment, and authentic assessment.
