More than two decades experience in the field of health policy, qualitative analysis, monitoring & evaluation framework, strategy, health communication and fundraising at International Health Research Organization (icddr,b) including Universities in Bangladesh, United States of America and Australia.
In 2003, Shakeel received ‘International Tuition Award’ from the University of Maine, USA for obtaining MPA degree, concentration on Health Policy & Non-Profit Management, and received graduate research assistantship award. His additional master's degrees are Accounting from Dhaka University, Business Administration on Human Resources Management from Trinity University, Delaware, USA and Public Health from North South University. He received ‘Lions International Award’ and ‘Magna cum Laude Award’ for receiving admirable GPA in MBA and MPH degree successively.
He is fellow of Royal Society for Public Health, RSPH, London, Royal Society of Arts and Commerce, RSA, London, Institute of Business Administration, IBA, London, Institute of Administrative Management, IAM, London, UK, and member American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, ASTMH, USA, American Society of Public Administration, ASPA, USA, Institute of Administrative Sciences, IAS, Belgium and Royal Society of New South Wales, RSNSW, Australia,. He was nominated twice for ‘Best Practices Global Health Award ‘(2007 & 2008) by Global Health Council, USA also received "GALO DE BARCELOS DOURADO" Award by International Congress on Environmental Health held in Portugal in 2014. He presented numerous papers at international conferences, including EPIC G8, USA in 2004 and WHO, Spain in 2008. He attended international trainings, including Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard University. He was editor in chief of Health Systems and Policy Research, & editor of number of other journals. He is also an Administrator of Asian Institute of Management, Philippines (Bangladesh Chapter) since 2009.
In 2023, he completed Ph.D degree in health policy from University of Newcastle, Australia and recipient of Commomwealth Scholarship Award 2017 and 'HDR Publication Award' 2020 and 2021. In 2017, he received 'Best Poster Award' from University of Texas Medical Branch, USA. He also worked as HDR Rep & elected as board member College of Humans and Social Futures, member, academic senate at University of Newcastle. He also serves as a visiting lecturer at Australian Catholic University and North South University.
