TEACHING

Sharon possesses extensive experience in teaching and in the design of culturally aligned curricula within cross-cultural contexts. Her academic roles have included appointments with Griffith University in the United Arab Emirates and the Aga Khan University in East Africa. She led the review and revision of the national curriculum for Technical Nurses in Egypt and developed and facilitated workshops on competency-based curriculum design for the Supreme Council of Nurses. Most recently, she completed a visiting professorial appointment at the University of Parma in Italy, where she taught clinical skills and early warning response systems to undergraduate nursing students and conducted a series of research capacity-building workshops for nursing faculty. During her tenure at Massey University, she received awards from the University Extramural Students’ Society for Exceptional Commitment to Extramural Teaching and Exceptional Teaching in the Delivery of Extramural Courses.

RESEARCH

Sharon's research focuses on health workforce capacity building, equity of health and educational access and collaborative, partnership-based activities in health, education and regional development.  This includes significant work related to collaborative practice and telehealth initiatives.  Since 2020, Sharon’s research has included a series of collaborative projects focused on interprofessional practice and student-led initiatives in primary care settings. Her commitment to equity of access in regional and remote areas is reflected in her research on telehealth, as well as studies examining the influence of ‘place’ of delivery on educational achievement and best-practice models for vocational education access and delivery.
