I live and work in Bathurst after a varied career in both Law and nursing which has taken me to various places including major tertiary hospitals and working for barristers in the heart of Sydney, nursing in the UK, and legal practice for a small firm in regional Australia. I have been working for CSU in various capacities since 2013, and currently am situated in the school of nursing on the Bathurst Campus.
My previous research was in law, particularly in criminal law and remedies for victims as a function of the availability of the offender. The overarching principles of my research are in interest in law and it's interplay with ethics and social responsibility, particularly identity and social responsibility of organsiations. This translates well into an interest in health ethics and social responsibility to health consumers. There are also significant overlaps with responsibility to both victims of crime and health consumers in terms of consequences of crime, compensation for crime, access to health services particularly specialist services and victims needs. I would like to explore these links more thoroughly in the future.
I remain a registered nurse and associate member of the law society of NSW. As well as academic work at CSU I maintain practice in emergency in a public hospital and theatre recovery in a small private hospital. I enjoy keeping my practice up to date and exercising my practical as well as theoretical skills.
I currently occupy a teaching focused position, and teach mainly theird year nursing students. I convene an online only mental health subject, and am involved in stucturing, writing and developing a new stand alone law and ethics subject for nurses. I fill in for a diverse array of subjects ranging from first year through to third year students and really enjoy participating in the development of students throughout their university journey to graduation and registration.
