Dr. Subash Thapa is a Senior Research Fellow at the Rural Health Research Institute (RHRI), Charles Sturt University. He has extensive research experience in global health and social epidemiology, with a particular focus on the mental health and well-being of vulnerable populations. Dr. Thapa is passionate about global health research collaborations and has successfully contributed to projects in Nepal, Belgium, the United States, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, and Australia. His work includes valuable fieldwork experience, especially in rural and remote areas.
Dr. Thapa earned his PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from the University of Leuven in 2017. From 2018 to 2020, he was a Postdoc at the Department of Public Health at the University of Southern Denmark, where he managed an international research collaboration between King Saud University and the University of Southern Denmark. This collaboration focused on implementing digital health interventions and remote healthcare for chronic diseases at King Saud University Hospital in Riyadh. From 2020 to 2023, he held the position of Assistant Professor at the same institution, where he taught Global Health Policies and Implementation to Master of Science in Public Health students, and conducted several Danish register-based and global health studies.
Currently, Dr. Thapa leads research projects on Adverse Childhood Experiences and Mental Disorders in rural Australia and Nepal. He is also a member of the Odense Risk Research Group at the University of Southern Denmark, contributing to projects on workplace violence and the mental health and well-being of seafarers in the Danish Merchant Fleet, supported by the Danish Maritime Authority.
