A/Prof Terry Lucke is an inaugural member of the CSU Engineering team. Terry has worked closely with Prof Lindsay, Prof Morgan and a select group of leading engineering education specialists since 2015 to help develop the world-first, innovative civil engineering degree at CSU. Terry has also helped develop many of the fundamental topics in the original CSU Engineering Tree of Knowledge and he currently coordinates and teaches a number of the subjects undertaken by CSU cadets during their industry placements.
Before joining the CSU engineering teaching team in 2021, Terry was A/Prof in Civil & Hydraulic Engineering at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) where he developed, taught, and refined many of the fundamental civil and structural engineering courses during his 10-year tenure. Terry was also very active in research at USC with his two main research areas focussing on developing innovative water treatment technologies, and more engaging learning methods for engineering students, such as ‘flipped learning.’ Terry founded and led the USC Stormwater Research Group from 2015. During this time, he secured over $5.0 M in research funding (including ARC) to support his team of researchers and PhD students. Terry (and his associates) has published more than 100 research outputs since starting in academia in 2007.
Terry gained over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry before he joined the academic ranks. Terry is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a Fellow of Engineers Australia. The onset of COVID 19 was the catalyst for Terry to step back from full-time academia and return to professional engineering. Alongside his CSU academic duties, Terry also works as senior engineer at the leading, private engineering consultancy on the Sunshine Coast, where he is once again enjoying the challenges of developing innovative civil engineering solutions.
