Dr Tintu Baby attained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the Kerala Agricultural University in India in 2003, a first class Honours in Wine and Horticulture in 2019 and a PhD in Agriculture and Natural Resources Science in 2015 from the University of Adelaide. Her PhD was focused on grapevine physiology and salinity, and the thesis was titled “Grapevine reproductive performance: the role of amines, and the effects of salt and silicon”.
She joined NWGIC as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in 2018. Prior to that she worked as an Agronomic Consultant for more than five years in South Australia and Sunraysia/Mallee region. Her expertise is in Plant and soil nutrition, Grapevine physiology, Soil-plant interactions, Agronomy, Organic/biological farming and Sustainable agriculture.
Focus area: grapevine nutrition, wine quality, climate change
Tintu is currently working across multiple research projects focusing grapevine nutrition, wine pH and climate change
Current projects:
(1) Vine Nutrition: Developing a user-friendly Smartphone App for assessing vine nutritional status in the vineyard.
(2) Managing wine pH in a changing climate: Investigating the impacts of soil types, climate and vineyard management practices on the berry maturity parameters, wine acidity and sensory attributes; developing a better vineyard management strategy for warm regions to attain appropriate acid-sugar balance in the grape juice for better quality wines.
