Dr. Travis Holland is a Senior Lecturer in Communication at Charles Sturt University, specialising in media ecology, science communication and digital culture. His research examines the intersection of media technologies and society, with particular focus on three interconnected streams:

Media and Technology Studies
Investigating how emerging technologies shape public communication and cultural narratives, from social media's influence on local governance to the role of digital platforms in fan communities. This research has produced publications on topics ranging from Facebook and Google's transformation of advertising to the embodied experiences of augmented reality gaming.

Science Communication and Popular Culture
Bridging science communication and media studies through innovative research on how scientific knowledge is mediated through popular culture. This includes work on palaeontological representation in media, space exploration narratives, and the intersection of scientific discourse with entertainment media. Recent projects include studies of science podcasting methodologies and the cultural impact of Jurassic Park on public understanding of palaeontology.

Digital Pedagogy and Innovation
As a Course Director (2017-2022), Travis comprehensive curriculum redesign of both undergraduate and master's programmes in communication. His pedagogical research advocates for innovative digital learning approaches, particularly online student media and creative practice methodologies. He co-leads the Media Lab research group, focusing on creative innovation in digital communication.

This interdisciplinary expertise is reflected in publications across leading journals including Television and New Media, Media International Australia, and Persona Studies, as well as substantial public engagement through The Conversation, ABC, and international media outlets.
