Description

“It’s only the skin colour, otherwise we are all people”: the changing face of the Australian nurse
Dywili S, O'Brien L, Anderson J.

Literature suggests overseas qualified nurses are likely to be discriminated against in their destination countries. In this paper Dywili and colleagues report on a qualitative hermeneutical phenomenological study that identifies issues of race and colour among colleagues and between patients and overseas qualified nurses. The migration experience of the study participants highlights the power of welcoming people to their new country, identifies instances of discrimination by race, and discusses the necessity of trust and teamwork to ensure overseas qualified nurses are supported in their professional practice
