“Stories of One Basin” : for First Nations knowledge and Indigenous-led research to address climate change

Prize: GrantSuccessful

Description

The aim of this project is to develop and support Indigenous-led research while
also protecting the Intellectual and Cultural Property rights of First Nations
across the Murray Darling Basin (MDB). This project will elevate the roles of
First Nations peoples in creating Basin futures, mindful of barriers to such
participation from a history of exclusion and marginalisation, especially as this
relates to Indigenous knowledge. A central proposition is that such elevation
will benefit First Nations people and Basin socio-ecological conditions more
generally, especially considering the threats from climate change. It offers two
work packages designed to establish an Indigenous research governance
framework for the One Basin Cooperative Research Centre (1BCRC). These
packages are co-designed and support ongoing co-design and codevelopment processes. The protection of Intellectual and Cultural Property
rights will be enacted and assessed through an Indigenous research
governance framework developed over the life of this project. The work
packages will support the work of key Basin management organisations that
are committed to the inclusion and protection of First Nations knowledge.
