A flying start for our future teachers: A comprehensive information literacy program for pre-service education students at the University of Wollongong, Australia

Abstract

The Education Faculty Librarian at the University of Wollongong has collaborated with the faculty's academic staff to develop a program to ensure that there is a planned, comprehensive approach to information literacy development for pre-service Education students. The program aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to excel in their studies, their teaching, and their lifelong learning pursuits. Specific subjects have been targeted for information literacy to be significantly integrated into the academic curriculum. This article provides a detailed overview of the program as well as some background into its conception and development. It concludes with a reflection of the program after its first two years in practice and considers possible future directions.
