Abstract
During a scheduled course review, we were asked to lead the re-modelling of the Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology). We were able to propose a more flexible, innovative and student-centred course, that consists of subject discipline clusters. The content and practicals are separated, with a more holistic approach and focus on application of knowledge within the profession.
This talk will focus on how the re-imaged course model has strong, vigorous content scaffolding, which breaks down the traditional subject silos using cluster specific case studies. This will allow students to evaluate and reflect on connections between subjects using acquired knowledge, rather than simply acquiring knowledge. We will show how students can flexibly complete a 3.5 year course within 3 years. We have, with help from the teaching team, created a truly innovative and competitive course; the first of its kind for the Faculty of Science.
