Abstract

This is a 32 page fantasy picture book for younger readers, with an original story by Mark Macleod, using May Gibbs' classic Australian characters, and accompanied by licensed digital adaptations of her artwork. Snugglepot and Cuddlepie are getting ready for Christmas - or Cuddlepie is, anyway. He is busy cleaning the house and making sure the food is ready for their guests, while Snugglepot sneaks a taste of the party food and generally relaxes. He is bored because there's no one to play with and all Cuddlepie seems to do is work. When Cuddlepie suddenly leaves their house on some unspecified errand, Snugglepot checks all the hiding places for presents - there's something for everyone except him and he feels left out. Mrs Snake likes the look of a shortbread star on top of the Christmas tree, and trying to reach it, brings the decorations on the tree crashing down. Snugglepot knows he will get the blame for the mess when Cuddlepie comes back home, so he gets the house into order, just as Cuddlepie turns up. And Cuddlepie has a surprise: he's brought their friends round to play. That's Cuddlepie's Christmas present, so he hasn't been forgotten after all and the party's about to start.
